Many organizations within a community attempt to take the pulse of a community. I believe that no other organization in ANY community is as in touch, as informed and as influential as the Press.  While the Press was designed to report on the community, to dig into the inner workings of government in an effort to keep government honest, it has the ability, through reporting, to shape action within a community.

As Washoe County Sheriff, I not only understand the need for a vibrant and determined Press, I will embrace their efforts.  The Press, in my administration will play a vital role in giving real time access to the inner workings of the Sheriff’s Office to the community.  It will also allow the community to hold me personally accountable for the actions or inactions of this office and allow me to provide the most transparent and accountable administration Washoe County has ever experienced, while maintaining the integrity of the office and the work we do.

I am actively creating C-A-P (Community Action Partnerships) and fully believe that the Press must be involved.  I am extending an open invitation to all members of the Press who would like to be a member of one of the CAP’s so that they can report on the activities being discussed, but more importantly, they can be an active participant, helping to design, create and implement new and impactful programs within the community.  We are Forging a New Path in Washoe County and the Press is a vital partner in this process.
